The JOOSPORTS × YC&AC Contender Cup 2026 Spring is an invitational football tournament bringing together competitive Masters teams from across Japan and the region. Hosted on the historic full-size pitch at Yokohama Country & Athletic Club (YC&AC), the event celebrates high-level football, sportsmanship, and the spirit of lifelong athleticism. Designed for experienced players, the tournament offers a professionally organized match environment, quality officiating, and a community-driven atmosphere where teams can compete, reconnect, and enjoy the game at a top standard.

As part of the growing JOOSPORTS and YC&AC partnership, the Contender Cup aims to establish a premier Masters competition in Yokohama — one that combines international-style tournament delivery with the tradition and heritage of one of Japan’s oldest sporting clubs.

With 8 teams, 20 matches, and continuous action from morning to afternoon, the event blends intensity, enjoyment, and community—celebrating the passion of football beyond age.

FORMAT

Player Eligibility Requirements

Open-age invitational tournament
Organising Committee may review and approve team rosters to ensure fair and balanced competition
Teams are responsible for ensuring all players are fit, insured, and eligible to participate

Team Squad Size

Each team may register a maximum of 14 players for the tournament.

Match Format

8-a-side: 7 outfield players + 1 goalkeeper
Group Stage → Knockouts (Semifinal, Final, Placement Matches)
Every team plays 5 matches (90 minutes)

Match Duration

18-minutes full match
No halftime
Total match slot: 18 minutes

Key Rules

Standard FIFA-basis with youth-specific adaptions
Rolling substitutions during dead-ball situations at the halfway line
No offside rule
Throw-ins only, no kick-ins
Sliding tackles: Allowed if safe and fair
Scoring from goal kicks allowed
Teams must have at least 6 players to play
Metal studs prohibited; turf or molded cleats only
Shin guards required

Independent Referee Policy

All matches will be officiated by certified independent referees.
Referees may intervene for safety.
Referee decisions are final.

Weather Policy

The tournament will proceed in light rain. Matches may be delayed or rescheduled only if extreme weatherposes safety risks.

FIXTURES & KNOCKOUT ROUNDS

Group Stage

Teams are divided into two groups and compete in a round-robin format. Each team plays all opponents in their group, earning points for wins and draws. Standings are determined by total points, followed by goal difference and goals scored. The top teams from each group advance to the knockout stage.

Knockout Stage

The top teams from the group stage move into a single-elimination bracket. Semi-final winners progress to the final, while the remaining teams compete in placement matches to determine overall rankings from 1st to 8th place.

ACCESS

The Yokohama Country & Athletic Club (YC&AC) is conveniently located in the heart of Yokohama and is accessible by both car and public transportation.

Parking: Visitor parking is available at two locations — the upper parking by the Clubhouse and the lower parking by the tennis courts. Parking fees can be paid at the meter upon exit.

By Train: From JR Yamate Station (Keihin-Tohoku / Yokohama Line), it is approximately a 15-minute walk to the club.
